Energy Performance in Buildings Directive

DECs & EPCs

The way in which we light, heat and use our 25 million buildings contributes to almost 50 per cent of the total energy consumption and carbon emissions in the UK. It is vital that we make our buildings more energy efficient. Even minor improvements to the energy performance of our buildings could have a considerable effect on our fuel bills and carbon emissions.

The Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EPBD) is a Government initiative aimed at helping the UK improve the energy efficiency of its buildings and meet its carbon emission reduction targets. It addresses the need to assess our existing and new build stock and requires that certain criteria are met to reduce energy use and associated CO2 emissions. The initiative includes:

  • Display Energy Certificates (DEC) for publically owned buildings
  • Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) for sale, rent and construction of commercial buildings
  • Inspections for Air Conditioning (AC) systems
  • Advice and guidance for boilers

We employ Low Carbon Consultants who will soon be suitably qualified/accredited as energy assessors for DECs, EPCs and Air Conditioning Inspections.
